Looking at working from home – Look at drop shipping

Drop shipping is becoming very popular and if you want to make money working from home, this could be a very good option for you.

Basically, this is a venture you can start with just a PC, an internet connection and some initial start up money to create your own website interface through which you will display the products you want to sell to online customers.

Drop shipping means that you as a seller need not maintain any inventory of goods that you are about to sell. Your only task is to identify the various companies that can supply different goods and when you get customers interested in buying them, you only have to forward such orders to these companies that you have identified. It is then the responsibility of the company to ship the required items to the customer.

So, how do you make money and how do you go about it?

Well, you have to price the product such that it takes care of the cut that you need to pay your suppliers and anything above that is your profit. To start with, you need to market your website, have a good mailing list to let people know about you and having done that you can be in business.

Other things that can help you in this business is knowledge about the rules in dealing with suppliers, getting the right paperwork in terms of the licenses and necessary identity codes so that you don’t have problems in the future about you being involved in a genuine business and not just a customer trying to strike good bargains.

Benefits of drop shipping from home

  • a) There is no risk whatsoever as there is no inventory or bad/damaged goods to worry about. You do not have to set aside money for warehousing and other staff costs to look after the goods. It is the supplier who has to take such risks.
  • b) You do not have to take care of the logistics of delivery of the goods to the customer and worry about their safe passage. This is a very engaging task and you will be surprised at the time it takes of a person.
  • c) You can sell almost anything you want through your website as long as they are consistent with the category or theme you have promoted on your website. If you try to just about anything, then you will lose your uniqueness and become just another peddler of goods.

To conclude, some amount of research and focus is all you need to run a good business. It gives you tremendous flexibility to plan your time and activity and you are your own boss. If you wish, you can start it on a part time basis initially and depending on your experience with it, take the process further. Making a start is important and you will find that things fall into place. Moreover, you do not have much at stake to lose and that should motivate you to go ahead.
